Synlait is a New Zealand-based dairy company. They combine expert farming with state-of-the-art processing to produce a range of nutritional milk products for their global customers that provide genuine benefits for human health and wellbeing.

Synlait has worked with hairyLemon for a number of years, with hairyLemon providing full support for their previous website after it had been built by another web company.

Time for change

Synlait communications advisor Jessica Thorn says "Our previous website was old, and hard to update. Very little was editable at our end, which meant we were frequently contacting hairyLemon to ask for updates to be made.

"As the company has grown and become more complex, it was obvious to us that we needed to relook at our entire website and how it is used.

We also launched a new brand, which meant that it was the perfect time to chuck out the old site, and start from scratch."

Stakeholder engagement workshops

As part of the process of developing the new Synlait site - and ensuring it accurately reflected this fast growing business and the path planned for its future development, our team carried out a series of workshops with the main teams within the business, along with other key stakeholders.

This process enabled a clearly defined site structure to emerge, along with priorities for the type of content that needed to be highlighted for each specific audience group.

Engaging with staff across the business also helped communicate the process around the website rebuild and the rebranding activity that was happening at the same time.

Once the site structure had been determined, our team worked with the brand designers to build a modular website that would be easy for visitors to navigate and very user friendly for the Synlait communications team to update as required.

Moving forward

As the company continues to evolve, the website is now far more able to change with the needs of the company. The site launched with the rebrand was designed as the first phase, with ongoing functionality and features to be added over time.

"We’re really happy with the new website and have real pride in what we’ve produced with hairyLemon and the designers.

"The site is performing really well, but more importantly we’re thrilled with how customisable it is at our end. We can add, edit, remove and rejig pretty much any aspect of this new site, which for a quickly evolving company like ours is a godsend," Jessica commented.
