Xero vs MYOB – a User’s Perspective

Xero vs MYOB – a User’s Perspective

As an experienced user of MYOB (over 10 years) the challenge was put to me to have a look at using  Xero for a new arm of our business.

Immediately I was interested following the issues we had re-setting up MYOB after the February earthquake. A huge benefit of Xero is that it is web based and you can login from anywhere – I could have been up and running the next day (if I had had power!). Xero upgrades happen seamlessly without you ever knowing so no resource is needed at our end to manage that process.

Xero is clean looking and contemporary – MYOB is getting a little old hat and while the functionality works, looks do count.

There is a comprehensive online help centre with Xero and when I emailed a support question I was contacted via phone within three hours. I have always had challenges when calling the MYOB support line – I often get the impression that I know more than the help centre staff do – offering solutions to my problem that they haven’t even identified.

The reporting features in Xero look user friendly and can be manipulated easily to create your own templates – this is extremely valuable  to us as a company. It easily handles more than one user being logged in at one time – something that MYOB does seem to struggle with.

All in all, if you are thinking about using Xero – take the plunge! With only a month’s use under my belt I am loving it and may look at moving our other two business arms over to it in the future.
