Visitors from all over the world can now get a little ‘wild
at heart’ by visiting the new Westland District Council website.
The Council has recently launched the region’s new website
in a bid to promote the district to international and domestic
tourists.
Council Chief Executive Robin Reeves says that while the West
Coast is already a popular tourist destination, with the world-renowned
Hokitika Wildfoods Festival, the Council wanted to show that there
is much more to do in the region.
"We wanted a website that showcased Westland as an exciting
and diverse place to visit,” Reeves says.
Developed by Christchurch media company hairyLemon, Council
staff were heavily involved in the development of the site, helping write its
content and contributing many photographs.
“We now have a website that gives people a little taste
of the ‘magic’ Westland has to offer,” Reeves
says.
Sue Wilkinson, Director of hairyLemon says while
the site now has international appeal, it was developed with a
local focus.
“We wanted to develop a site that the Council and the Westland
community could use and be proud of,” she says. “Relevant
information about Westland’s libraries, cemeteries, rates
and other Council services can now be accessed from the site. The
site promotes the district as a tourist location while providing
a great service to the community.”
Reeves says that this has helped the Council keep in touch with
the community.
“The new technology gives the Council the ability to make
many of our district plans available to the public. What is pleasing
is that more and more people are accessing these and giving the
Council feedback.”
“The best thing about the site is that it is user-friendly.
This was an important objective for us in planning the site. More
people are using the Internet than ever before, and the initial
feedback we have had about the new site, from both the local community
and interested visitors, has been tremendous,” Reeves says.
“I have no doubt our new website will do a fantastic job
of promoting the Westland District for many years to come.” |
