Everything you ever wanted to know about Buller will soon be available on-line.
The Buller District Council has been developing a website since May. With some fine tuning, the site – www.bullerdc.govt.nz - should be up and running by next week.

The public will be able to tap in and look at over 80 'pages' of information about Buller, complete with vibrant photographs and animated images.

The site contains a who's who of people at Buller District Council plus a list of council's services, facilities and publications. A district profile and a notice board are also available.

An on-site search engine, for those who want to find out something in particular, is incorporated. This means the searcher can type in a subject name to seek information.

For instance, the public will be able to find out about council requirements for building consents and then print off from the site the necessary forms. Development of the website has been a joint project between council's information technology development team and a Christchurch company - Hairy Lemon Web Solutions.

More than 250 hours have gone into building the site since May. Much of this was done from Christchurch.

The council's "web development team" were able to check the site's building progress daily through a 'test' site. This ensured information about Buller incorporated into the site was correct.

"The council IT team have just been fantastic in supplying us with the information we needed," Hairy Lemon director Graham Dockrill said.

"Part of our brief from council was to make it an easy site to negotiate - but also to make it a bit quirky."

While the site was static, it incorporated "interesting little" animations. It was also designed to incorporate new information as the need arose, Mr Dockrill said.

"This site was designed specifically for that."

This meant council staff would be able to continually develop and add new information as required.

Council's computer systems-geographic information systems administrator Carol Poynter said a lot of council staff ideas and skills were incorporated into the site, including photographs.

The website team at the council would continue to develop the site ensuring it was kept up to date, she said.
